I subscribe to an ezine from Cagle Cartoons. Today's featured topic is China and Tibet.
I think it's worth a look; editorial cartoonists mostly from the US, but not entirely, give their take on the subject.
Yeah, I'll bet that grabbed your attention.
I'm talking about US of A politics here; specifically, Texas politics.
And how are they kinky, you might ask? Well, right now, they feature one of my favourite "alternative" musical artists - Mr Kinky Friedman. Turns out he's running for Governor of Texas.
LotD - Kinky Friedman
So many things influence our voting behaviour. Here is Australia, if you vote for fewer taxes, you're said to be voting with your pocketbook. Some folks are moved to support a candidate because he or she is pro-environment, while others could care less about that topic and want someone tough on law and order.
If I lived in Texas, I'd find it hard to go past a candidate who brought us such memorable lines as "get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed ... that's what I to my baby said", a candidate who gave us the song We reserve the right to refuse service, a candidate who was game enough to pen "ride 'em Jewboy" about a Texas-Jewish cowboy.
When I was first introduced to him in the early seventies, I knew he was a kindred spirit, using satire and wit to turn aside the hatred and bigotry of small-minded rednecks, no matter where they lived. I've always found him an entertaining and targeted commentator.
Even if you don't vote in Texas, I encourage you to check out Kinky Friedman's music. He's a modern-day Will Rogers, and that's saying something!
