ABC Radio in Australia had an interview with Lee Spiegel, author of Against the Machine: being human in in the age of the electronic mob.
I haven't read the book (yet), but the interview is very interesting.
I've (so far) found the Internet to be a very pleasant place. I've been treated kindly and with respect, bar one bad exchange. I wonder if I'm an exception or not, or is my experience related to where I hang out, my middle-agedness, my interest in things other than popularity, celebrity, shock, sexual interaction and so on?
Read the article and let me know what you think and how your experience of being a Netizen compares (but only, of course, if you want to!).
Well, I'm crap at this blogging thing. It nags at me like an annoying voice - you know, the kind of nasal whine that one heard in the schoolyard - and I keep meaning to add to it, but then life intervenes.
I also feel that every time I sit down to write something, I'm producing a nasal whine of my own - complaining and carping.
And then there's the voice that says "why would anyone be interested in what you have to say?" I tell you ... it's a real struggle, this blogging thing.
But I'm nothing if not persistent and I'm going to try again. I'm promising nothing. No regularity. No pearls of wisdom. No great wit or fabulous insights.
I'm going to try the alphabet method. Every time I feel prompted to blog, I'm going to select a word from the dictionary or thesaurus, using the "open and point method", and find something to say about it. It's a bit randomised yet somewhat methodical, and should keep me - if not the blog - fresh and challenged!
